The roads along Ireland’s west coast are perfect for a road trip. Nature is overwhelming and trails throughout the area invite hikers and explorers. Get some impressions of this trip, starting from Sligo Abbey going South to beautiful Achill Island.
Since day 5 was about seeing as much of Northern Ireland in 24h as possible we started day 6 really laid-back. After breakfast we took a walk to the beach and watched the neighboring lambs prancing in the fields.
On the way to the coastal road we stopped by Sligo abbey. It is a medieval Dominican friary, still well preserved. Entrance is 4€, 2€ for students. But I only recommend this if you´re really enthusiastic about excavations.
We were driving on road N59 along Oweniny River towards Achill Island. And it was the first time we found some sheep on the road. It was such lovely scenery. I enjoyed this part of the road trip the most. The area around Ballycroy national park is absolutely beautiful. To reach Achill Island you can come over a bridge and there are a couple of roads to cross the Island as well.
